A five-bedroom, five-bathroom, new build family home in the Jacobean revival style popularised during the Arts & Crafts movement. With tall chimneys, mullioned windows and gable roofs, set among the large houses and leafy suburbs of a pretty Cheshire village the property captures the spirit of a bygone era, when art and craftsmanship were valued.
The brief was to create a comfortable, modern family home balancing the clientâs appreciation for heritage and traditional craftsmanship whilst providing the backdrop for their collection of art, furniture and sculpture.
Having previously refurbished their Grade II* listed country house, Mark Gillette were approached when they started a new chapter. Guiding the clients to define the architectural language of the property, Mark and his team set about creating interior layouts maximising functionality whilst maintaining a sense of architectural balance.
The Stair Hall, a double height space with bronze staircase and galleried landings, acts as the link between the main areas of the house. Beneath the landings, grey oak columns were incorporated with matching grey oak wall panelling. In the main area, lightly painted panelling provides the backdrop for a large 19th Century Spanish table and contemporary painting. More contemporary artwork adorns the gallery landing above and in keeping with the âArts & Craftsâ spirit, the window alcove is cleverly utilised to create a snug spot for quiet reading, with recessed bookcase and fitted window seat.
